Mumtaz, who was 16 at the time, was in a relationship with Shammi Kapoor for a short time until they split up because the actress wanted to concentrate on her career.
The actress discussed her connection with Shammi Kapoor in a recent interview with Pinkvilla. She expressed her deep affection for him and expressed her regret for not being able to marry him.
“I adored him to death. Swamiji, I believe, adored me as well. I was disappointed that I was unable to marry him. I was only 17 at the time. He was 18 years my senior. It was far too soon for me to marry. She told Pinkvilla, “Mujhe kucch banna tha.”
She claimed that their split was amicable and that they had reached an agreement. Shammi Kapoor, she further stated, was really lovely and loving to him.
“We parted on friendly terms.” He didn’t do anything to make my heart khalish (pain). He was really kind and considerate of me. But you can’t stop fate. It would not have worked if I had gotten married. Because I would have always harbored resentment. I desired to perform. I needed to accomplish something. The Kapoors were adamant that their bahus not work in movies. Swamiji, on the other hand, married a gorgeous lady, a lovely woman. Neila Deviji is a lovely lady. “She was excellent for him and handled him so well,” the Do Raaste actress continued.
In 1974, Mumtaz married Ugandan businessman Mayur Madhvani, and the couple has two daughters, Natasha and Tanya.
