Many odd situations involving cricket players have occurred over the years. There have also been instances of umpires colliding with players. We saw something really unique and one occurrence that may have been damaging during the ongoing Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
International cricket has returned after a long hiatus, with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh playing a two-match Test series. Sri Lanka won the toss on the first day and choose to bat first on a wicket that aids both batsmen and bowlers.
Kusal Mendis hit Liton Das with his bat in the 24th over of the first innings, which was a peculiar event. Nayeem Hasan of Bangladesh was bowling to Sri Lankan batter Kusal Mendis.
The bowler smashed one short ball down the leg side, and like any good batsman, he attempted to pull but mistimed the hit. In the follow-through, he didn’t make a good connection with the ball and instead swung his bat at the keeper. Fortunately, he didn’t make a strong impact on the keeper, and no significant harm was done.
After a brief pause, play resumed after the goalie underwent a necessary concussion test due to the impact on his head.
In their first innings, Sri Lanka scores 397 runs.
Sri Lanka has amassed a mammoth total of 397 runs thanks to Angelo Mathews’ 199. By the conclusion of day 1, they were hoping for a score of around 500, but the Bangladesh spinners came back strong.
Nayeem Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan both bowled well, taking six and three wickets respectively. Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, and Vishwa Fernando made key contributions towards the finish, allowing the visitors to go closer to the 400-run mark.
