Massive Ravana Effigy Burned in Kolkata’s Central Park for Dussehra

Kolkata, 24th October 2023: In a joyous tradition, the Salt Lake Sanskritik Sansad Committee & Sanmarg celebrated Dussehra in Kolkata by burning a towering 50-foot-tall effigy of Ravana, along with 40-foot effigies of Meghnad and Kumbhakaran at Central Park (Salt Lake). This event aimed to bring the people of West Bengal closer to their rich culture and traditions, celebrating the triumph of good over evil.
The event had several prominent guests, including Dev, an actor and Member of Parliament, Sujit Bose, the Minister of State for Fire, and Sabyasachi Dutta, the Chairperson of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, among others. Thousands of devotees gathered to witness the burning of the Ravana effigy, which is a significant part of Dussehra celebrations.

Dussehra is a Hindu festival celebrated with special prayers, food offerings, and the burning of effigies of the demon king Ravana. It is a symbol of the victory of righteousness over evil. The event also featured cultural performances and sacred rituals before the effigy burning, attracting over 25,000 enthusiastic participants.
Sanjay Agarwal, President of Salt Lake Sanskritik Sansad, mentioned, “We made special arrangements at Central Park to celebrate this victory of good over evil. Along with burning the 50-foot Ravana effigy, we had an exciting fire show for everyone to enjoy.”
Lalit Beriwala, Chairman of the Trust Board of Salt Lake Sanskritik Sansad, said, “This year marked the grand 11th anniversary of our Dussehra event, known as East India’s largest celebration. It signifies the end of the Durga Puja festival and is celebrated with Ravan effigy burning across the country. We brought in artists from different regions to entertain the audience and make this event special
