Congress Leaders Speak Ahead of National Convention in Gujarat
At a press conference held at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, Shri Pawan Khera, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Department of the All India Congress Committee, addressed the media. He said: “All Congress leaders in Gujarat are fully involved in preparing for the upcoming national convention. I congratulate the Gujarat leadership.
This convention is not just a party meeting – it is like a family gathering.
In Congress, decisions are not made by one person and followed by everyone else. That never happens in our party.
- Even during British rule, Congress leaders worked together with the people to bring light in times of darkness.
- Fighting darkness is a constant struggle.
- In Gujarat, for the last 30 years, democracy has been suppressed.
- Congress is more than a political party – it is the voice of the people.
- And you cannot silence the voice of the people.”
Shri Shaktisinh Gohil, President of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee and Member of Parliament, also addressed the press. He said:
“This national convention of the Congress party will strengthen the core values and ideology of Congress.
We will send a strong message to those who tried to undermine Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s legacy.
At the Sardar Memorial, you will find Sardar Patel’s watch, chair, dhoti, jacket, and kurta.
Because of the presence of such great leaders’ memories, we are hosting the CWC (Congress Working Committee) meeting there.
Some are trying to erase the name of Karamasad. Even the stadium named after Sardar Patel was renamed.
The theme of this convention is based on the ideas of Sardar Patel and Mahatma Gandhi.”
He added:
- On 8th April at 11:30 AM, the CWC meeting will be held at the Sardar Patel Memorial.
- Leaders from all over India, including state presidents, CWC members, legislative leaders, and CLP leaders, will attend.
- At 5 PM, a prayer meeting will be held.
- At 7 PM, a cultural program will be organized at the convention venue, highlighting Gujarat’s rich traditions.
Shri Amit Chavda, Leader of the Congress Legislative Party in Gujarat, said:
“Today’s government is going against the thoughts and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Industries like diamonds, textiles, and ceramics in Gujarat are facing a slowdown.
We will discuss ways to implement Congress’s policy of supporting small and medium-sized businesses.
Though there is a law for prohibition, it exists only on paper.
Due to the easy availability of drugs, the youth are getting destroyed. On one hand, the government talks about ‘Developed Gujarat’, but on the other hand, 40% of children are malnourished.
In the coming days, we aim to free the country from malnutrition. We will talk about providing better facilities in education, healthcare, and other essential areas. Both the British and Ravana were arrogant – those currently in power will also see their arrogance broken.”
