The Leela Gandhinagar Blends Flavor with Eco-Focus This Earth Day
Newz Daddy Fashion and Lifestyle Updates
The Leela Gandhinagar marked this year’s Earth Day in a flavorful and environmentally conscious style by organizing a one-of-a-kind zero-waste cooking competition, bringing together women who are passionate about sustainable and mindful cooking. With nearly 40 enthusiastic participants, this celebration was not just about food—it was about rethinking our relationship with nature, waste, and wellness.
The Earth Day event kicked off with home chefs arriving with their carefully prepared dishes. These dishes, prepared using sustainable and minimal-waste methods, were evaluated by the talented culinary team at The Leela Gandhinagar. The focus was not only on taste but also on the use of local ingredients, mindful cooking techniques, and creativity in reducing kitchen waste.
The initial round set the tone for a deeper engagement with sustainable cooking, as the selected finalists were invited to participate in a live cook-off. This exciting face-off in the hotel’s kitchen arena gave participants the chance to showcase their live cooking skills in front of an encouraging audience and judges.
One of the key highlights of the day was the Sustainable Cooking Masterclass led by Executive Chef Amit Rohilla and Chef Ashish Thakre from The Leela Gandhinagar. The session offered hands-on insights into eco-friendly cooking practices—ranging from using vegetable scraps creatively to energy-efficient cooking techniques.
The chefs emphasized that going green in the kitchen doesn’t mean compromising on taste or experience. Instead, it can lead to more innovative dishes and healthier meals. Their passion for sustainability inspired everyone in the room, especially the budding home chefs.
The event was hosted in collaboration with Innovative Food Entrepreneurs Associates (IFEA) and the SNS Cooking Club, both of which are known for empowering home cooks and encouraging eco-conscious practices. Their joint effort with The Leela Gandhinagar added a strong sense of community and collective responsibility to the celebration.
Beyond the cooking contest, The Leela Gandhinagar ensured that Earth Day was celebrated through multiple green initiatives throughout the day. One heartwarming activity was a tree plantation drive inspired by the nationwide “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. Hotel staff members, along with their families, planted over 50 trees in and around the hotel premises.
In a step further towards sustainability, the hotel also launched its very own in-house organic garden. This garden will support the culinary team with fresh, pesticide-free herbs and vegetables, reducing the hotel’s carbon footprint while enhancing the dining experience for guests.
Adding an element of excitement and advocacy, the hotel organized an electric bike rally, where employees rode through Gandhinagar to promote clean and green modes of transportation. The rally aimed to raise awareness about reducing vehicle emissions and embracing cleaner alternatives in everyday life.
Another innovative segment of the Earth Day celebration was a “Best Out of Waste” session, where employees showcased creative ways to recycle, reuse, and repurpose materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. This hands-on demonstration encouraged everyone to look at waste differently—not as a burden, but as a resource for creativity and conservation.
Speaking about the hotel’s vision, Mr. Vikas Sood, General Manager of The Leela Gandhinagar and the Mahatma Mandir Convention & Exhibition Centre, said:
“At Leela Gandhinagar, we believe true hospitality goes beyond comfort—it nurtures the mind, body, and spirit. Our holistic wellness program ‘Aujasya’ is thoughtfully designed to offer guests not just a stay, but a journey toward well-being. From mindful nutrition to restorative wellness rituals, every element reflects our commitment to a balanced and enriching environment.”
This statement perfectly summed up the day’s essence—hospitality with heart, purpose, and sustainability.
The Earth Day celebration at The Leela Gandhinagar was not just a one-day affair but a reflection of the hotel’s broader commitment to sustainability and wellness. Through innovative cooking, community involvement, and eco-friendly practices, the event proved that small, mindful steps can lead to big changes.
By merging hospitality with environmental consciousness, The Leela Gandhinagar continues to set a benchmark for responsible luxury, where every guest experience is infused with care for both people and the planet.
