Who will be the next lady to speak up? What kind of woman is willing to talk to a reporter? What lady would trust a buddy with her secrets? In many ways, #MeToo was a women’s free speech movement. This response has worrying implications for free speech.”

The much-discussed case concerned a lawsuit filed by Depp against Heard in December 2018 in The Washington Post, in which she described herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.”

While the Virginia jury found Amber Heard’s piece defamatory to Johnny Depp, it also decided that Heard had been defamed by one of Depp’s lawyers, who claimed that she had staged a detailed hoax that involved roughing up the couple’s flat to make it appear worse for cops. She was granted $2 million by the jury.
