RCB captain Faf du Plessis
“We felt a little short as we went off the field,” Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis said after his team fell by seven wickets to Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Friday.
“With the new ball, it was a little more difficult because it moved around a little.” However, we made it through the first six without too much trouble. In the first session, it felt like Test cricket. Really, more bounce. Still, we thought 180 was par,” said du Plessis, who hit a slow 27-ball 25.
“Apart from that, I’m pretty proud of myself. RCB has had a fantastic season. This is my first season, so I’m still getting used to how great the audiences have been for us. All of the men selected for India, including Harshal [Patel] and DK [Dinesh Karthik], have earned it. Even if we were not at our best tonight and against a very tough Rajasthan Royals side, I am happy of the players,” he continued.
On the plus side, the captain voiced optimism for the future and praised the domestic talent available in the flagship league. “Our squad has some pretty excellent young potential, and you have a three-year strategy in place.” That’s what you’re aiming for. You can see how effective Rajat [Patidar] has been since he arrived. Indian cricket has a bright future. With the amount of fresh talent coming through, you can always pick three Indian teams after the IPL.”
“The most evident thing has been our fans. If you go to any game, you’ll hear RCB-RCB chanted. Even when playing Mumbai, the boys became emotional when they heard the RCB shouts. So, thank you very much to our fans,” du Plessis remarked, expressing his gratitude to the franchise’s devoted supporters.
