Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPI) in Ahmedabad achieved a remarkable feat during the Cricket World Cup 2023, serving a record-breaking 40,801 passengers in a single day. The airport also managed the highest-ever number of flight movements on November 19, 2023, showcasing its efficiency and preparedness.
The airport handled a total of 359 flight movements, including 260 scheduled and 99 non-scheduled air traffic movements (ATMs). Of the 40,801 passengers, 33,642 were domestic travelers, and 7,159 were international passengers. Despite a 45-minute closure of airspace for an Indian Air Force air show, the milestone was reached in just 23 hours.
Ahmedabad Airport’s success is attributed to ongoing infrastructure updates and improvements. The airport welcomed two VVIP guests during the Cricket World Cup, ensuring seamless coordination of their flight movements. The achievement reflects the dedication of the airport staff, including AAI, CISF, Immigration, Customs, airline partners, and the SVPI airport team.
Over the past couple of years, Ahmedabad Airport has undergone significant changes to enhance passenger experience. Additions such as a self-baggage drop, a new immigration area, an extended arrival area in the domestic terminal, a new security check area, dynamic queue management, and floor-walking customer service executives have contributed to a seamless travel experience.
Recent introductions like Digi Yatra for faster entry and new infrastructure, including a large arrival hall, an upgraded baggage check-in system, an increased pre-SHA area, and additional x-ray machines, have further improved the airport’s capabilities.
Before this record-breaking day, SVPI airport witnessed the second-highest passenger movement on November 18, serving 38,723 passengers with 273 flight movements. The third-highest passenger movement occurred on February 19, with 37,793 passengers and 268 ATMs.
