The 8th edition of the Ahmedabad International Literature Festival is set to enchant literary enthusiasts from November 24th to 26th, 2023, at the serene Centre for Environment Education in Thaltej Tekra, Ahmedabad. This year’s theme, ‘Literature and Human Development,’ promises a unique exploration into the profound impact of literature on shaping our humanity.

Distinguished Inauguration
Dr. Justice KJ Thaker, Hon. Chairperson of Gujarat State Human Rights Commission, will inaugurate the festival. Joining him will be Dr. SK Nanda, IAS (Retd.), author, columnist, and former home secretary of Gujarat, along with acclaimed actor and poet Shri Akhilendra Mishra and the festival’s Founder Director, Umashanker Yadav.
A Diverse Gathering
With over 100 speakers from India and around the world, the festival boasts an array of panel discussions, performances, plays, and poetry recitations. Notable figures like film actors Rajendra Gupta, Yashpal Sharma, and Akhilendra Mishra, journalists Mayank Shekhar, Dr. Shirish Kashikar, and Jyoti Yadav, as well as esteemed authors and personalities, will grace the event.
Themes and Discussions
The festival aims to explore the role of literature in human development amidst the global decline in human values. Topics such as the influence of creative industries and schools, mental health, feminist writings, partition literature, North East literature, world literature, children’s literature, social projects, and poetry sessions have been carefully curated to foster discussions on inclusivity, compassion, and a sense of belonging among humanity.
Mentor’s Perspective
Dr. SK Nanda, IAS (Retd.), the festival’s mentor, expressed concerns about diminishing human values worldwide. He highlighted the importance of literature in fostering a deeper understanding of human development. The festival aims to encourage dialogue on literature’s role in shaping individuals with broader perspectives.
Founding Values
Umashanker Yadav, Founder and Director, stressed the significance of creative industries and literary communities in building a values-based society. He emphasized the festival’s role in cultivating readers and writers, particularly among children and young adults.
