From Vibrant Gujarat to Global Connections: SVPI Airport’s Success Story

In a testament to its growing prominence, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPI) in Ahmedabad witnessed a remarkable surge in passenger and cargo movement during January 2024. Let’s delve into the details of this exciting development.

Rise in International Passenger Traffic

January 2024 proved to be a bustling month for SVPI Airport, as it played host to various high-profile events and festivals, including Vibrant Gujarat 2024, Filmfare Awards, and Uttarayan. This vibrant atmosphere attracted a substantial influx of international travelers to Ahmedabad, resulting in a noteworthy increase in passenger traffic. A staggering total of 200,199 international passengers traversed through Ahmedabad Airport in January, marking a significant 25% rise compared to the same period last year.

Expansion in Aircraft Traffic Movements (ATMs)

Accompanying the surge in passenger numbers, international aircraft traffic movements (ATMs) also witnessed a substantial uptick, soaring by 41% from January 2023 to January 2024. This growth trajectory can be attributed to the addition of several new destinations by leading airlines, including Air India, Malaysia Airlines, Thai Airways, Air Asia, VietJet, and Indigo. These new routes offered travelers an array of options for both leisure and business travel, further enhancing Ahmedabad’s connectivity on the global map.

Enhanced Security Measures

As the influx of international passengers surged, the airport’s security team diligently screened a total of 165,830 pieces of passenger baggage in January 2024. Despite the efficient screening process, 2,215 bags required physical inspection due to the presence of prohibited items such as copra, battery cells, and lighters. Passengers are strongly urged to adhere to regulatory guidelines and refrain from packing prohibited items to avoid delays and inconvenience during security checks.

Rise in International Cargo Movement

In tandem with the surge in passenger traffic, international cargo movement experienced a notable uptick as well. With its dedicated Cargo Terminal (T3), SVPI Airport efficiently handled a total of 4,251 MT of cargo in January 2024, marking a significant 20% increase from the same period last year. The resurgence of operations by Turkish Cargo further contributed to this achievement, highlighting SVPI’s growing importance as a key logistics hub.

Operational Efficiency and Commitment to Excellence

The substantial increase in passenger and cargo numbers underscores the operational efficiency and commitment of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport towards providing world-class facilities and exceptional services to its passengers. As Ahmedabad’s premier aviation gateway, SVPI Airport continues to strive for excellence in fostering connectivity, promoting trade, and facilitating seamless travel experiences for passengers and businesses alike.

A Bright Future Ahead

As SVPI Airport continues to chart new heights in passenger and cargo traffic, its role as a key catalyst for economic growth and development in Ahmedabad and beyond becomes increasingly evident. With its unwavering commitment to excellence, SVPI Airport is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of aviation in the region and beyond.
