Allegations of Bribery, Fake Notices, and Power Cuts Plague Rashtrapal Society
Residents of Rashtrapal Society in Vejalpur protested today at the South-West Zone office of the municipal corporation, accusing officials of corruption and throwing fake currency notes.
Two years ago, Siddhi Builders & Developers claimed that the land (16,000 square yards) under Rashtrapal Society was government-owned. They pressured residents to vacate, promising to rebuild permanent houses and hand over flats within two years. Around 150 families left due to threats from the builders, but 20 families stayed. Those who resisted faced constant harassment, including electricity cuts 18 months ago. After a 2-month struggle, residents managed to restore power.
Recently, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) allegedly sent a suspicious notice (without proper stamps or numbers) demanding residents vacate immediately. Locals accuse builders of colluding with corrupt officials to seize their land, valued at ₹2,000 crore.
During the protest, residents threw fake notes at officials, symbolizing bribes taken by authorities. They warned of legal action and larger protests if the issue isn’t resolved within 5 days.
Key Points:
- Builders and officials accused of intimidation and fake notices.
- Residents fought for basic amenities like electricity.
- Land dispute involves high stakes (₹2,000 crore).
