The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has decided to ban the use of paper cups for tea. The reason behind is said that the wastage of the cups was coming in excessive amounts and hence the AMC authorities have decided to take this step.
It is to be noted that the use of paper cups was also hazardous to health.
The use of paper cups for tea comes with a few possible risks:
Chemical leaching
Some paper cups may contain dangerous substances like Bisphenol A (BPA) or polyethene that could seep into the hot tea and perhaps result in health problems.
Burns
If the paper cup is not thick enough or if the tea is too hot, heated liquids can easily result in burns.
Paper cups have an adverse effect on the environment because they are not biodegradable and are difficult to recycle.
Deforestation
Since a lot of paper cups are created from virgin pulp, trees must be felled in order to make them. Deforestation could result from this, which can have a range of detrimental effects on the ecosystem and nearby communities.
Health Risks
According to some research, paper cups should not be used since they are made of bleached paper, which may leak chemicals that are harmful to human health when in contact with hot liquids.
Paper cups are made for single use and are not intended to be reused, which can result in more waste.
Paper cups may not be able to handle the heat or acidity of some drinks, such as coffee or acidic juices, making them incompatible with some liquids.
Tea Quality
The type of cup used and how the tea is brewed on paper can both have an impact on how the tea tastes. When drinking tea from a paper cup, the flavour and aroma could alter.
Expense-Effective
Using paper cups for tea may appear to be economical in the short term, but if you frequently drink tea, the cost of replacing throwaway cups may up over time. Long-term savings may result from purchasing a reusable mug or cup.
The decision of AMC to ban has been accepted by tea lovers as they say that the quality of the tea will be better.
However, the tea vendors are not happy and they say that AMC should first find an alternative of paper cups and then should have ban. They believe that the tea price will increase and it will be on the shoulders of the customers.
