Anil Kapoor, a Bollywood actor who most recently appeared in “JugJugg Jeeyo,” remembers being a spot boy at the age of 17.
The actor, who is the son of director Surinder Kapoor and his wife Nirmala Kapoor, said he decided to enter the workforce when he was a teenager when his father became ill.
Anil Kapoor stated that his entry into the film industry wasn’t easy in an interview with Bollywood Bubble. Although he acknowledged that he enjoyed performing them, he enumerated the “strange professions” he held before becoming a well-known actor.
“I simply enjoyed carrying out these errands, such as waking up the actors and then picking them up, taking them to the airport, dropping them off at the location, taking care of them, collecting the appropriate snacks, and then carrying out the nashta breaks, or tea breaks. Naturally, I was then promoted to doing a little hardware shopping for the shoot as well as researching places, fixing them, and haggling over the location pricing. After that, I was promoted to casting director. I’m the casting director for Hum Paanch if you see it. Due to my significant casting assistance for the movie, that was the first time my name was used in the titles “he stated.
Anil Kapoor then switched to acting, but he didn’t immediately start appearing in Hindi movies; first, he did a Telugu movie, and then a Kannada movie. The actor further disclosed that, in order to work on South Asian films, he had changed his name to AK Rao.
In 1970, he made his acting debut as a young Shashi Kapoor in the movie “Tu Payal Mein Geet,” which was never released in theatres.
In the 1983 film “Woh Saat Din,” starring Naseeruddin Shah and Padmini Kolhapure, he performed his first leading role in Hindi. As a Tapori, he rose to prominence in Bollywood with Yash Chopra’s “Mashaal” (1984), for which he received his first Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.
