Ashwin Declares His Retirement From International Cricket in the Middle of The Series.
Ashwin took 1 for 53 in the day-night match in Adelaide, but he only participated in one of the first three Test matches in the current series in Australia.
At the conclusion of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Brisbane, R Ashwin declared his decision to retire from international cricket with immediate effect. He is scheduled to go home to India on Thursday.
“This will be my last day as an Indian cricketer in all formats at the international level,” Ashwin declared at a press conference following the Brisbane Test. “This will be India’s final day, but I would like to express that and even show it off in club cricket. I do feel like I have some punch left in me as a cricket player.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself. Even though I have lost several of my teammates to retirements in recent years, I have to admit that I have made a lot of memories with Rohit Sharma and a few others. If it’s true, we are the final group of originals to be excluded from the dressing room. I’m going to record this as the day I played at this level. There are obviously many people to thank, but if I didn’t acknowledge the BCCI and my teammates, I would be failing in my responsibilities. A many of them I’d like to mention some of them Every coach who has participated in the trip. Above all, I would like to thank Rohit, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, and Cheteshwar Pujara for their outstanding catches around the bat, which have allowed me to accumulate the number of wickets I have over the years.
“I would also like to express my gratitude to the Australian cricket team, who have been really competitive. It has been fun to play against them.
As Ashwin conducted his press conference, Rohit sat next to him and remarked, “I don’t think too many questions should be asked or raised because certain decisions are really personal. Someone like Ashwin, who has supported us for so many years, is free to make those kinds of decisions on his own, and we as teammates must accept that. If a player has made a decision, he must be given that freedom. He was quite certain of his goals, and the team fully supported his way of thinking. Naturally, there is currently a bit of a void, therefore it is imperative that we as a team get back together and get our perspectives on this. We have some time to consider our next course of action. Regarding Ash, however, he was quite certain of his choice.
With 537 wickets at an average of 24 in 106 Tests, Ashwin finishes his Test career as India’s second-highest wicket-taker in the format, trailing only Anil Kumble, who finished with 619 wickets from 132 Tests.
He took 1 for 53 in the day-night match in Adelaide, but he only participated in one of the first three Test matches of the current series in Australia. Ashwin had taken just nine wickets at an average of 41.22 in the last series, which ended in a 3-0 loss to New Zealand at home.
Ashwin will be 39 by the time India’s next home season rolls around because he isn’t a regular in the starting lineup for their away Test series against England.
Ashwin was one of 11 all-rounders with more than 3000 runs and 300 wickets, having amassed 3503 Test runs with six hundreds and 14 fifties in addition to his wickets. He also tied Muthiah Muralidaran with a record 11 Player-of-the-Series honours.
