Asia Cup Hockey 2022
The Indian men’s hockey team began their crucial battle against lowly Indonesia in the last Group A match. They needed to win this game and win by a large margin. They needed to beat Indonesia by a margin of 15 goals to knock Pakistan out and qualify for the Super 4s. The young lads did it in the final seconds of the game.
The rout not only ensured India’s place in the tournament’s final round, but also effectively eliminated Pakistan.
India and Pakistan tied for fourth place in Pool A, although the hosts qualified for the Super 4s due to a greater goal differential.
India needed to beat Indonesia by a score of 15-0 or more to go into the second round. The defending champions achieved it thanks to five goals from Dipsan Tirkey and three goals from Sudev Belimagga.
Uttam Singh and Nilam Sanjeep Xess each scored a goal, while veteran SV Sunil, Pawan Rajbhar, and Karthi Selvam each scored a brace.
Pakistan had earlier in the day lost 2-3 against Japan.
India not only qualified for the Super 4s, but also assisted Japan, South Korea, and Malaysia in qualifying for the FIH World Cup 2023. India has already qualified to host the 2023 Hockey World Cup, whereas Pakistan has been eliminated.
