BCCI Starts Search for Next Secretary After Jay Shah; Four Strong Candidates Will Play the Role
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now searching for a new secretary as Jay Shah is scheduled to be the next chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Declared unopposed as the next ICC Chairman, Jay Shah will start his term on December 1, 2024. He will have to quit his present post as BCCI Secretary when he assumes this new one. Four good candidates mean that the contest to occupy his post at BCCI is getting intense.
Let’s go over the four people under consideration for the post and assess their prospects.
1. Rohan Jaitley: Currently the President of the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA), Rohan Jaitley is a competent cricket administrator. Among the several cricket teams connected to the BCCI, including the UPCA (Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association), MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association), and GCA (Gujarat Cricket Association), he is much respected. In cricket administration, Rohan Jaitley is regarded as a trustworthy and consistent name. He is seen as a youthful, driven cricket fan who also lives near Jay Shah. His reputation for audacious choices has enhanced his candidature, such as founding a T20 league in Delhi and a women’s T20 league. while claim he may even surpass Jay Shah in some areas; while others think he has traits like Shah. He is thus a fierce candidate for the BCCI Secretary post.
2. Rajeev Shukla: Familiar in both politics and cricket administration, Rajeev Shukla is a senior politician and vice-president of BCCI right now. Having held many roles inside BCCI and acted as a representative to overseas cricket boards, he has a great deal of knowledge in cricket administration. Though a Congress Member of Parliament, he is popular across partisan lines and gets the moniker “Azad Shatru,” an objective friend. Jay Shah regularly seeks his advice on important matters; this tight friendship increases his prospects of being the future BCCI Secretary even more.
3. Arun Dhumal: Having been heavily involved in the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, Arun Dhumal is the current Chairman of the IPL Governing Council and has a great degree of experience in cricket administration. He also happens to be Anurag Thakur’s brother, who was the past BCCI president. Renowned for his youth and love of cricket, Arun Dhumal has collaborated closely with Jay Shah to produce notable IPL success. His excellent performance qualifies him as still another good candidate for the BCCI Secretary post.
4. Ashish Shelar: Currently BCCI’s Treasurer, Ashish Shelar is also somewhat well-known in the Mumbai Cricket Association. In cricket administration, he is regarded as a fair and neutral leader whose objective decision-making is highly appreciated. In BCCI’s management, his views are much prized. His candidature still gains more from his political experience as a member of the Maharashtra BJP.
There is fierce competition among these four names, and each one is seen as a strong candidate for the post of BCCI Secretary. The ultimate choice will be declared shortly.
