22nd December, Ahmedabad: The Sub Junior boys and girls team from Bihar stamped their authority as they emerged back-to-back winners at the recently concluded 7th Sub Junior National Rugby Sevens Championships 2022 held at IIT-Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad.
Earlier in the day, the girls’ team from Bihar beat Rajasthan 5-0 in the first semi-finals and the boys beat West Bengal 50-0. The other boy’s semi-finals were played between Kerala and Jharkhand with the boys from Jharkhand winning a convincing 15-0. The 2nd girls’ semi-final was played between West Bengal and Odisha where Odisha edged out the girls from West Bengal 10-5.
Kerala came 3rd in the Boy’s category beating West Bengal 5-0 whilst Rajasthan beat West Bengal 5-0 in the 3rd/4th place match in the girl’s category.
The tournament was held by Indian Rugby Football Union (Rugby India) in association with the Rugby Football Association of Gujarat Rugby over a span of 2 days with a total participation of 24 teams in the U14 Girls category and 25 teams in the U14 Boys category. All participating state teams at the event have successfully completed a round of inter-district competitions within their respective states.
The Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU) is the sole governing body for the sport of Rugby in India. The IRFU, responsible for the growth and development of the sport of Rugby across the country, is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India and is a full member of the Indian Olympic Association (10A), Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) & World Rugby.
The Sub Junior Boys team from Bihar repeated their triumph by beating Jharkhand 10-0 in a convincing victory. The girls team showed their prowess by beating Odisha 20-0. These results look extremely promising for the state as they will look to continue these standings across all categories and hope to have future champions in the National team.
