Chris Evans rose to prominence as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, becoming America’s favourite superhero (MCU). As an Avenger, the 41-year-old battled aliens, villains from different universes and timelines, and even his best friend in order to rescue the Earth. After bringing back half of the world’s inhabitants, his reign came to an end in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Captain America aka Steve Rogers decided to return to his love Peggy Carter and passed the mantle to the Falcon, played by Anthony Mackie. While Captain America believes the 43-year-old actor is capable of taking on the job, Evans recently expressed his feelings about handing over his famous character to him.
Chris Evans discusses Anthony Mackie’s portrayal of Captain America.
In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, the actor stated that ‘no one better’ than Mackie to play America’s first superhero in the MCU. He also expressed his admiration for Mackie, saying that he was “proud” of him. He also expressed interest in seeing what the Marvel future holds for Mackie.
Evans recently discussed the prospect of reprising his role as Steve Rogers in the future. “I don’t want to disappoint anyone, but it was such a terrific run and I’m so delighted with it… it’s so important to me,” he stated in an interview with Comicbook.com. It’d have to be flawless. It would be terrifying to shake something so important to me, and that character means so much to me, so revisiting it would be a difficult task.”
Anthony Mackie, on the other hand, played Sam Wilson, nicknamed Falcon, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In the fourth installment of the Captain America franchise, he will reprise his role. Kari Skogland is set to direct the film. The cast is still being kept under wraps, including if Sebastian Stan will reprise his role as the Winter Soldier.
In the meantime, Chris Evans is preparing for the debut of Pixar’s Lightyear. The film will recount the origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the popular character from the Toy Story franchise, and will be directed by Angus MacLane. The film also stars Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, Taika Waititi, Peter Sohn, Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, and others, in addition to Evans. On June 17, 2022, the film Lightyear will be released.
