Synopsis of the Article

The city of Gandhinagar witnessed a significant visit from one of the top-ranking officials of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). Additional Director General (ADG) AK Harbola, PTM, TM, who currently serves as the Coast Guard Commander for the Western Seaboard, visited the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (North West) from April 14 to 16.

This three-day visit marked an important occasion for the region, as it highlighted the strong operational and administrative capabilities of the ICG team stationed in Gujarat. Upon arrival, ADG Harbola was warmly received by Inspector General T Sashi Kumar, TM, the Commander of Coast Guard Region (North West).

During the visit, Inspector General T Sashi Kumar briefed ADG Harbola on the ongoing and future developments in the region. The discussion covered several key areas including the latest operational strategies, progress in infrastructure development, and technological upgrades that are helping the force stay prepared for maritime challenges.

Gujarat’s coastline, being one of the longest and most strategically important in India, plays a crucial role in national maritime security. The Indian Coast Guard in this region continues to strengthen its capabilities with modern infrastructure and real-time surveillance systems.

ADG Harbola didn’t just stop at official briefings. He made time to meet with officers, enrolled personnel, and civilian staff at the Regional Headquarters. During his interaction, he acknowledged their dedicated efforts and encouraged them to maintain their high standards.

He specifically praised their excellence in maritime operations, technical innovation, and administrative efficiency. These words of appreciation served as a major morale boost for the entire team.

Further strengthening the collaboration between maritime forces and state authorities, ADG Harbola also called on two of Gujarat’s top government officials:

These high-level discussions focused on cooperative strategies to enhance coastal security, disaster response coordination, and overall maritime governance. The ICG’s role in supporting the state during emergencies like cyclones or marine accidents was also recognized during the interactions.

The Indian Coast Guard has always been at the forefront of ensuring safety at sea. Whether it’s saving lives during search and rescue operations, preventing illegal activities like smuggling, or keeping an eye on marine pollution, the ICG continues to evolve with time.

With its motto “We Protect,” the organization remains committed to safeguarding India’s vast maritime interests. The visit of ADG Harbola to the North West Region serves as a reminder of this commitment and the teamwork that powers this maritime force.

As India’s coastal security needs continue to grow, the Indian Coast Guard stays future-ready—upgrading its infrastructure, building stronger coordination with state authorities, and most importantly, motivating its people to serve with pride.
