For the past nine days, health department workers across Gujarat have been protesting, demanding better working conditions and fair pay. These workers include multipurpose health workers, female health workers, supervisors, and other essential staff of the health and panchayat departments. Despite their relentless service during the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has not met their genuine demands. In support of these workers, Congress Legislative Party leader Amit Chavda has raised his voice, urging the government to listen and take necessary action.

Health workers have been the backbone of public health services, especially during the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic. They worked day and night, risking their own and their families’ lives to serve the people. However, their dedication has not been acknowledged with concrete measures by the government. Instead of receiving deserved respect and recognition, they have been met with suspension and termination orders.

According to Amit Chavda, the government has adopted a stubborn approach, similar to the tactics used during British rule, by suppressing the voice of these workers. He strongly criticized the government for not engaging in a meaningful dialogue with the protestors and instead issuing termination orders.

Chavda emphasized that the Indian Constitution grants every citizen the right to express themselves. However, the government’s harsh measures against the health workers show a disregard for this fundamental right. The suspension and termination of workers who are peacefully protesting have only deepened the crisis.

In the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, Congress MLAs Dr. Kirit Patel and Vimal Chudasama highlighted the health workers’ situation and demanded that the government immediately engage in discussions to resolve the issue. Chavda assured the health workers that Congress stands firmly with them and supports their fight for fair treatment.

He Appealed To The Government To:

The ongoing strike has severely affected health services across Gujarat, from villages to districts. People are suffering due to the lack of adequate healthcare support. The absence of essential health workers has left many health centres struggling to provide basic services.

The government needs to consider the sacrifices and hard work of these health workers, who have been pillars of the state’s healthcare system. Instead of suppressing their voices, the government should engage in constructive dialogue and work toward a solution that benefits both the workers and the public.
