Navrachana University’s SEDA Brings Creative Solutions to Life

Navrachana University’s School of Environmental Design and Architecture (SEDA) recently hosted its much-awaited End Semester Exhibition for the Autumn Semester of 2024-25. The event displayed an impressive range of innovative projects created by students from its Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Design (Interior), and Bachelor of Design (Product Design and Visual Communication) programs.

This year’s exhibition was a spectacular showcase, featuring over 500 models and 1,000 drawings. Each project was a testament to the students’ creativity, technical skills, and commitment to addressing real-world challenges. Themes ranged from cutting-edge public space solutions to modern, sustainable designs inspired by traditional practices.

Students tackled several socially relevant topics through their work. Key highlights included:

This semester placed special emphasis on creating precise, communicable design details suitable for construction sites. Explaining this focus, Prof. Pratyush Shankar, Dean of SEDA, said:

“The construction industry in India often struggles with a lack of quality drawings. At SEDA, we train our students to produce building details that ensure durability, soundproofing, and waterproofing, ultimately improving construction standards.”

The final-year architecture students stood out with their urban design proposals for Baroda. Their projects addressed critical issues like making cities more livable and creating vibrant public spaces. These designs reflected a deep understanding of community needs and a commitment to sustainable urban development.

Commending the students’ efforts, Mr. Sandeep Virmani, the chief guest and Director of Hunnarshala Foundation, remarked:

“SEDA’s focus on urban planning and design showcases its dedication to building cities that nurture community, sustainability, and a higher quality of life. These students are truly tackling real-world challenges with innovative solutions.”

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Sandeep Virmani, a prominent architect and advisor to SEDA. Joining him were esteemed members of SEDA’s Academic Advisory Board, including:

These luminaries brought their expertise to the table, interacting with students and offering valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities in design and architecture.

SEDA’s exhibition not only celebrated student creativity but also reinforced its vision of empowering future architects and designers with skills to tackle real-world problems. The projects were carefully curated to bridge the gap between theory and practice, ensuring students understand the importance of precision and sustainability in design.

As Navrachana University continues to nurture the next generation of innovators, its focus on sustainability and social impact ensures that the students are ready to make a meaningful difference in the world.
