Indian Coast Guard Saves Fisherman in Critical Medical Emergency

In a heroic and swift operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the safety of Indian fishermen by conducting a life-saving medical evacuation at sea. The incident occurred on 18 December 2024, when the ICG Station at Pipavav received an urgent call for help from the fishing boat IFB Dariya Dolat One.

Located approximately 110 kilometers from Pipavav, the boat reported a severe injury sustained by one of its crew members, 31-year-old Deva Uka Dabhi. While attempting to remove ropes tangled in the boat’s propeller, Deva suffered a critical wound in his lower abdomen. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the crew reached out to the Indian Coast Guard for immediate assistance.

Responding to the distress signal, the Indian Coast Guard Ship C-409, which was already on a surveillance mission, was immediately diverted to the scene. With maximum speed and precision, the crew established communication with the fishing boat to assess the situation and prepare for evacuation. The ICG personnel worked with urgency and professionalism, ensuring that Deva was transferred onboard the Coast Guard vessel safely.

Onboard ICGS C-409, the Coast Guard’s medical team provided critical first aid to stabilize Deva. The team’s timely intervention and expertise played a vital role in preventing the injury from worsening during the journey back to shore.

The ICGS C-409 made its way back to Pipavav Harbour, where arrangements had been made for further medical care. Upon arrival, Deva was handed over to the Fisheries Association Jafrabad, who ensured he was transported to a medical facility for continued treatment. Thanks to the Coast Guard’s swift response and efficient coordination, Deva’s condition was reported to be stable.

This incident highlights the Indian Coast Guard’s steadfast dedication to the safety and well-being of those who work at sea. Fishermen, who often face dangerous conditions far from help, rely on the ICG for support during emergencies.
