Dr. Abhishek Saves 80-Year-Old’s Life with Special Heart Procedure
In the city of Ahmedabad on September 5, 2023, a skilled heart doctor named Dr. Abhishek Rajpopat did something amazing. He helped an 80-year-old man who had a very sick heart and kidney problems.
The special procedure he used is called Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), which is hard to say! It’s a way to fix a narrow heart valve without cutting the chest open.
This patient was in big trouble because his kidneys were not working well, and he had symptoms like trouble breathing, chest pain, and swollen legs because of his sick heart. Normally, when doctors do TAVI, they use a special liquid that can be harmful to the kidneys.
But this patient’s kidneys were too weak for that, so Dr. Abhishek used a special way of doing TAVI without that liquid. It was a tricky job because he had to be really careful without using the usual stuff.
Dr. Abhishek learned how to do this special procedure in Denmark, where they are experts at it. He has done more than 500 of these procedures by himself. He said, “Using the special liquid could have hurt the patient’s kidneys even more. So, I chose the safe way. I’m happy it worked well.”
The patient is feeling much better now, and he’s getting better every day. He’s doing some exercises to make sure he stays healthy.
This special heart procedure is called TAVI, or Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation. It helps people with a narrow heart valve, especially those who can’t have regular heart surgery. They put a new valve in without taking out the old one, and it helps the blood flow better. In this case, they used a valve called Hydra from a company called SMT.
So, thanks to Dr. Abhishek’s special skills and unique procedure, this older man’s heart is working better, and he’s on the road to feeling much better.
