While renouncing a place on Twitter’s board of directors, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has retained his reputation as one of the social media company’s most unexpected personalities.
His first reaction after receiving the news was an emoji indicating cheeky laughter, which he soon deleted.
Musk will not be joining Twitter’s board of directors, the social media company’s CEO said late Sunday, less than a week after Musk’s appointment was announced.
Musk was appointed to the board of directors of Twitter after obtaining a big stake in the firm and becoming its largest shareholder.
“Elon has chosen not to join our board,” Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal tweeted.
“Elon’s appointment to the board was supposed to take effect on 4/9,” Agrawal continued, “but Elon declared that same morning that he would not be joining the board.”
“I suppose this is for the best.”
Last week, Musk, the world’s richest man with over 80 million Twitter followers, disclosed that he had purchased 73.5 million shares of Twitter’s common stock or 9.2 percent of the firm.
“We will continue to listen to Elon’s proposals because he is our greatest shareholder,” Agrawal said.
