Gandhinagar, Gujarat, 7th November 2023 – The School of Criminology and Behavioral Sciences (SCBS) at Rashtriya Raksha University, a significant institution for security education, recently organized a workshop on “Applied Psychology/Behavioral Health Landscape.” This event, chaired by Dr. S.L. Vaya, Chief Mentor of SCBS, joined forces with the Interim Commission for Allied & Healthcare Professions (ICAHP) Curriculum Committee.

The goal of the workshop was to revamp the existing curriculum for Behavioral Health professions, discussing challenges, professionals’ roles, and global standards. The event was inaugurated with the esteemed presence of Dr. Bimal N. Patel, Vice Chancellor of RRU, Dr. S.L. Vaya, Dr. Kavita Narayan, Sr. Technical Advisor, HRH, MoHFW, and Dr. Poonam Meena, DS, AHS MoHFW.

SCBS and ICAHP aim to develop a curriculum and training programs that match industry needs. The focus is on creating new roles and curricula to meet the rising demand for professionals in the behavioral healthcare sector. The programs will be designed for accessibility to individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Dr. S.L. Vaya, Chief Mentor of SCBS, highlighted in the discussion that Applied Psychologists’ roles would expand beyond clinical illnesses. The new curriculum aims to benefit underprivileged youth interested in behavioral healthcare. Dr. Kavita Narayan emphasized the importance of diversifying psychology into different specializations, enhancing students’ employability.

Dr. Manas Kumar Mandal, a Distinguished Visiting Professor, expressed the focus on job-oriented careers and research-based opportunities. (Prof.) Dr. L. Sam Sudheer Manickam stressed psychologists’ role in the nation’s development by addressing economic, social, and mental well-being.

Professor (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel, Vice-Chancellor of RRU, highlighted the university’s commitment to developing top-notch professionals through interdisciplinary education.

In essence, this workshop signifies a commitment to excellence, empowerment, and inclusivity, paving the way for a brighter future in the allied and mental healthcare industry.
