For West Indies Series In Feb BCCI May Consider Reducing Number of Venues Due To Covid-19

The amount of Covid-19 cases being filed in India is increasing and the country may be facing another Covid wave. In the midst of this it is reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking to cut down on the venues which will be hosting the India series against the West Indies series in the coming months.

West Indies will be traveling to India for three ODI and three T20I series starting at the beginning of February. The first ODI will be played on the 6th of February, 2022 in Ahmedabad.

Other than Ahmedabad and the other venues that are planned to be the venues for these games include Jaipur, Kolkata, Cuttack, Visakhapatnam, and Thiruvananthapuram. Jaipur and Kolkata together with Ahmedabad are scheduled to be the hosts for ODIs and Cuttack, Vizag and Trivandrum will host three T20Is.

“Nothing has been decided as of now. This is a fluid situation and we are keeping an eye on the situation, and we will take a call at the appropriate time,” a senior BCCI official said to the agency.

The agency report noted that, given the state of Covid across the world at the moment and the current situation, the BCCI may consider reducing their number of locations down to three, to minimize traveling.

The West Indies team is scheduled to go through three days of isolation following arriving in Ahmedabad on the 1st of February.

This year it was the Ranji Trophy season 201-22 was scheduled to begin on January 13 concerns of a third-round because of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 caused BCCI to delay the national cricket tournament.
