Celebrating World Forensic Science Day with ForensiCon’ 24

Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) hosted an event called ForensiCon’ 24 – A Day to Solve it All on September 20, 2024, in observance of World Forensic Science Day. The committed students of RRU’s School of Behavioural Sciences & Forensic Investigations (SBSFI) organized this event intending to bring attention to the value of forensic science and its application in contemporary society.

By locating crucial evidence, forensic science plays a crucial role in criminal investigations, assisting law enforcement and legal professionals in solving crimes. The student’s goals in putting together ForensiCon were to raise awareness of the profession among a broad audience and show how forensic science can be used in everyday situations.

A Day of Learning and Exploration

More than 300 people attended the event, including community members, teachers, and kids. Visitors of all backgrounds were invited to peruse the 15 distinct exhibits set up by SBSFI students, each of which highlighted a distinct facet of forensic science. The organization of these stalls, which included a variety of forensic activities meant to inform and entertain the attendees, was done by more than fifty student volunteers.

Among the most well-liked booths were “Know Your Crime Scene (KYC)”, which taught visitors how forensic investigators search crime scenes for evidence, “The Secrets of Handwriting”, which explored methods of handwriting analysis, and “Know Your Fingerprints”, which explained how each person’s fingerprint is different and how it can be used to solve crimes. “Kaun Banega Forensic Expert” was an interactive experience that tested players’ knowledge of forensic science through a quiz-style test.

Official Opening by Honourable Visitors

Dr. Mahesh Tripathi, the director of SBSFI, and Honourable Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Bimal N. Patel officially opened the event. The two dignitaries conveyed their appreciation for the efforts put forth by the students and the university to plan an academic event of this magnitude. They highlighted the significance of forensic science in the modern world and gave the students high marks for their originality and diligence in interestingly presenting the subject.

The Vice-Chancellor discussed the important role that forensic science plays in the legal and criminal justice systems, emphasizing how developments in the area have allowed complicated cases that would not have been solved to be resolved. Additionally, he urged the students to keep striving for academic success in forensic studies because there is a growing need for forensic specialists not just in India but also globally.
