India against Sri Lanka: Ravichandran Ashwin’s count of Test wickets eclipsed Kapil Dev’s in the inaugural Test at Mohali.
Former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel praised spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for his outstanding performance in India’s first-ever Test victory against Sri Lanka in Mohali. Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) colleague Parthiv Patel praised Ashwin for surpassing Kapil Dev’s record of 434 Test wickets. Parthiv revealed how Ashwin has risen to the top of the “elite” list, which includes Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev, and Harbhajan Singh. “Ashwin joined an exclusive group of cricketers that includes Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev, and Harbhajan Singh. These are Indian cricket legends, and many people have been inspired by their performances. Many individuals imitated the actions of Kapil, Harbhajan, and Kumble when we talk about batsmen like Tendulkar and Gavaskar.
Because of them, many people took up the sport. The fact that Ashwin has joined them is a testament to his dedication. It took him 11 years to get to this point. It takes time, and you must work diligently to earn that time. We’ve seen Ashwin do a variety of things as well. He has a thorough understanding of the game and devotes much time to studying it.”
Parthiv even stated that Ashwin has the ability to “get close or even break” Kumble’s record of most Test wickets for India, which stands at 619. When we were both in CSK in 2008, Ashwin was always eager to learn new things. During that time, he also spent time with Muralitharan. 436 wickets is an incredible achievement for Ashwin. He can go close to or possibly break Kumble’s record if he plays for another three to four years,” he continued.
Ashwin has 436 wickets for India in 85 Tests at an average of 24.26, including 30 five-wicket and seven ten-wicket hauls. However, if Ashwin is to surpass Kumble’s tally of 619 wickets in 132 Tests for India, he will have a long road ahead of him.
When it came to the game’s knowledge, Parthiv explained how the spinner was always trying to find a method to win.” and continue to study new things in order to enhance his bowling.
Ashwin has a good understanding of the wicket and adjusts his length and tempo accordingly. He also consults the wicketkeeper to determine the length and speed with which the batter should be dismissed. When you’re bowling in another country, these details are crucial. You don’t get a lot of spins and must set up the batter differently. You must fool him in the air while also adjusting your angles. We’ve seen Ashwin dismiss Smith with a round-the-wicket ball. He’s a game student who can modify his bowling to the surface,” he said.
In the first Test, Ashwin grabbed six wickets and also helped with the bat, making a fine half-century in the first innings.
The second obstacle to overcome is from March 12, Sri Lanka will play in Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
