Miss Universe Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, who is 22 years old and is from Punjab, spoke at an event on Wednesday about the ongoing Hijab controversy.

Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, Miss Universe 2021, met Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday at his official house in Chandigarh. A video of the meeting was released on CMO Punjab’s official Twitter account.

The 22-year-old Punjabi woman also spoke at an event about the ongoing Hijab controversy.
“It’s every girl’s choice,” Harnaaz remarked, “therefore no one has the right to speak about how Indian girls should live or dress.”

“Those who play politics with the subject are incorrect,” she continued.

In addition, Miss Universe 2021 stated, “Even if she is being controlled, she must step out and speak. Allow her to live her life as she wishes. We are ladies from various cultures who must respect one another.”

The hijab demonstrations in Karnataka began in January of this year when some students at the Government Girls PU College in the state’s Udupi region claimed that they had been denied access to classrooms. Some students said they were denied admission to the college because they wore hijab during the rallies.

Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu was elected Miss Universe 2021, the third Indian woman to win the prestigious title in the last 21 years.
