In Kolkata, there’s a festival called Hazra Park Durgotsab that’s been happening for 81 years. This year, they have a unique theme called “Teen Chakar Golpo,” which means the “Tale of 3 Wheels.” This festival takes place in South Kolkata at Hazra crossing.
Kolkata is a bustling city, always changing and moving fast. Auto-rickshaw drivers are a big part of the city’s life. They work hard day and night, not just as drivers but also as parents, spouses, and children. They may not earn a lot of money, but they work to make their families happy. Even though they dream of earning more someday, they have to sleep on rough blankets at night.

Sri. Sayan Deb Chatterjee, a person from the Hazra Park Durgotsab Committee, says that we often have negative feelings about auto-rickshaw drivers. But we don’t always understand their struggles, family life, and dreams. At the festival, they will recreate an auto-rickshaw stand, show auto parts, and display 12 auto-rickshaws. They will also hang up photos of auto-rickshaw drivers and tell their stories through voice-overs. Everyone is invited to come to the festival with their family and friends.
Auto-rickshaw drivers want people to know their story and appreciate their hard work. They go through all kinds of weather to transport passengers around the city. This festival season, they will feel the love and support from the Hazra Park Durgotsav committee.

This festival is special because it started a long time ago when people from lower castes were not allowed to be part of the big Durga Puja celebrations. This festival began in 1942 with the help of the Calcutta Municipal Corporation. It was open to everyone, including the underprivileged and those from lower castes. Even today, they show respect to those who have helped keep the city clean for years by serving them food during the festival. This shows that no matter where we come from, we should all be treated equally and with respect.
