MS Dhoni speaks out about whether he plans to retire from the IPL after the 2025 season or in the middle of it: “I’m not the one making the decision.”

As MS Dhoni’s role for CSK comes under scrutiny, speculation of his retirement has increased significantly in the lead-up to the IPL 2025.

I strongly feel that Dhoni should retire when he was young and captain of India, he told the selectors that he wanted young legs in his team.  Now what happened to you Mr. Dhoni, CSK needs young legs. It’s high time that you make a decision and your shoes for CSK.

CSK management will never tell you to retire, that does not mean that you keep on playing for the team.

Your fans look forward to seeing India’s renowned former captain, MS Dhoni, don the Chennai Super Kings colours each year during the Indian Premier League. The wicketkeeper-batter only participates in the IPL, avoiding cricket for the remaining ten months.

For the past few years, there have been rumours that Dhoni will retire at the end of each season. Even though Dhoni is still playing for the Super Kings, his fitness levels and batting role have raised a lot of questions about his future with the team in the early going of the IPL 2025 season. His body is asking him to sit on the bench and watch young players to take his position.

With his experience and expertise, he should guide young players on how to keep behind wickets and how to read the game. This should be his job from now on.

Early in the season, Dhoni batted at number nine in a challenging run chase against Royal Challengers Bengaluru; CSK even elevated Ravichandran Ashwin over the renowned finisher. Dhoni hit 30 off 26 deliveries when he came to bat in the 11th over of Saturday’s match against the Delhi Capitals, with CSK reeling at 74/5 in an 184-run chase. Despite remaining undefeated, he was unable to lead the team over the finish line.

Dhoni has spoken out about his future amid the mounting rumours that he may retire. Dhoni said in a pre-recorded podcast with Raj Shamani that he plans to play the entire 2025 season and would make a decision for the following year in the coming months.

Regarding retiring, not at this time. I continue to play in the IPL, and I’ve kept things simple. I take each year as it comes,” Dhoni stated.

“I’m forty-three, and I’ll be forty-four when I finish this July. I have ten months to determine if I should continue playing. The body determines whether you can or cannot; I’m not making the decision. One year at a time. totally concentrated on the tasks at hand. After eight to ten months, we will see,” the five-time IPL champion captain stated.

With just one victory in their first four games of the 2025 season, the Chennai Super Kings are off to a sluggish start. Their lone victory came against the Mumbai Indians in the team’s first game of the year, which they won by four wickets.
