Analysis of T20 Series against West Indies.
The preparation for the T20 World cup has already begun and teams have now started scrutinizing their final players for the upcoming T20 world cup in Australia starting in October.
India is currently in West Indies and has won the ODI series 3-0 beating West Indies in their home convincingly.
The next on the cards is the T20 series in West Indies. India will play 5 T20 matches before moving on to the Asia Cup.
After winning the first T20, India is going to take on West Indies today for their second T20 match. Indian team management is on the experimenting mode making changes in the team and testing the players for the T20 world cup.
Experimenting is good but too much of experiments will spoil the lab. Very right said by former world cup winner Krish Srikant that Indian Selectors should select the correct Team for the T20 world cup.
If the selectors and management continue to do experiments and keep on changing the team, then the combination may get disturbed and the team needs to gel with each other. There has to be a specific role to be played by each player.
The player must also be capable of adapting to the situation and playing accordingly. In that situation, experienced players are needed. Resting Virat Kohli for the West Indies series should have been avoided.
Virat needs runs and runs will come only when he plays. He will not gain confidence resting in his house. India needs Virat in the T20 world cup. Since there is uncertainty about KL Rahul as he has acquired the injury again and is doubtful, the presence of Virat is a must.
Sanju Samson should be included in the team in place of Shreyas Iyer in the second T20 as he has shown good temperament and scored good runs in the recently concluded IPL.
There is no doubt about Shreyas Iyer’s capabilities but he is a very good player for Test and ODI. For T20 matches, he needs to be more aggressive and should be able to score runs from ball one which he lacks.
It would be interesting to see whether the team management makes more changes in the spin department or persist with the same. India might opt for Kuldeep Yadav or Axar Patel in place of Ravi Bishnoi and Ashwin.
