Indian Filmmaker Gaurang Jalan Joins International Jury at Cairo Film Festival

Kolkata, September 23, 2023: The renowned Indian filmmaker Gaurang Jalan has been chosen as a member of the international jury for cinema and theatre at the Cairo Film Festival. This prestigious event, known as the Awladna International Forum for Arts of the Gifted, is taking place from September 22nd to 29th in Cairo, Egypt, under the patronage of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and with the support of various Egyptian government ministries. The festival is a part of the Afro-Chinese Arts and Folklore Festival, featuring participants from 41 countries.

Gaurang Jalan, who received a National Award for his film “Avijatrik” in September 2022, expressed his honor at representing India on the international stage. He remarked on the warm reception Indian films and culture have received in Egypt, drawing parallels between the rich histories of both nations.

Gaurang Films, the production company associated with Mr. Jalan, has a track record of producing award-winning films in various Indian languages. Their work has received accolades both nationally and internationally, with titles like “Safed Haathi” and “Aaj Ka Robinhood” standing out for their excellence in children’s cinema.

The Cairo Film Festival, a part of the broader Awladna International Forum, aims to support gifted individuals and provide them with a platform to showcase their talents in arts and cinema. It serves as a bridge connecting cultures from around the world and encourages children and their families to engage with global issues through the medium of film.
