India’s Squad Update for Upcoming Tests Against England
Newzdaddy Cricket Updates
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) senior men’s selection committee, led by former pacer Ajit Agarkar, is gearing up to announce the Indian squad for the remaining three Tests against England. Captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid are expected to play crucial roles in the decision-making process.
Virat Kohli’s Unavailability
India is set to miss the presence of Virat Kohli in the upcoming Tests. The former captain, who sat out the first two Tests in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, is unlikely to feature in the third and fourth Tests and remains doubtful for the fifth and final Test in Dharamsala. Kohli has reportedly conveyed his decision to skip the matches to Rohit Sharma and the selectors. However, the selectors may delay the announcement for the final Test, anticipating a potential series decider.
Injury Woes and Positive News
The Indian squad faces challenges with the unavailability of pacer Mohammed Shami, who is still recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the World Cup. On a positive note, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, both absent from the second Test due to injuries, are likely to be included in the squad for the next two Tests. Rahul, recovering from a quadriceps injury, and Jadeja, nursing a hamstring injury, are currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Mohammed Siraj’s Return: Pacer Mohammed Siraj, released from the squad for the second Test, is set to make a comeback. His inclusion is vital to share the bowling workload with Jasprit Bumrah. With the team management hesitant to field four spinners, Siraj is expected to replace Mukesh Kumar, who faced challenges with his line and length in the previous Test.
Jasprit Bumrah’s Participation
Contrary to speculations about resting Jasprit Bumrah for the third Test, the No.1-ranked Test bowler is confirmed to feature in Rajkot. Bumrah, a key figure in India’s bowling attack, will not be rested during this crucial stage. The management believes that the 9-day gap between the second and third Tests is sufficient to manage Bumrah’s workload. However, if India secures a victory in the third Test, there are chances Bumrah might be rested for the fourth one in Ranchi due to the limited gap between the matches.
The ongoing five-match series between India and England is currently leveled at 1-1. The third Test holds significant importance as a victory in this match would position the team advantageously in the series.
