According to a top BCCI official, the two-day blockbuster Indian Premier League auction will likely be held in Bengaluru on February 7 and 8, 2022.

It’s possible that this will be BCCI’s final mega auction, as most of the original IPL franchises want it to end.

“We will have the IPL big auction in India until the COVID-19 scenario worsens. The two-day event will take place on February 7 and 8, and, as in previous years, it will be held in Bengaluru. Preparations are in the works “On condition of anonymity, a top BCCI official told PTI.

According to rumours, an auction will be placed in the UAE, although the BCCI has no intentions to do so at this time.

The issue will remain fluid, however, with the discovery of the Omicron form of COVID-19 and an increase in cases, but if there are restrictions on outside travel (unless all owners elect to use charter planes), conducting it in India will be less of a logistical problem.

This year’s IPL will feature a total of ten teams, with Sanjiv Goenka’s Lucknow franchise and CVC’s Ahmedabad making its debuts in the cash-rich competition.

The BCCI has yet to issue CVC with a Letter of Intent, but it is likely to do so within the next several weeks.

Both clubs have till Christmas to declare their three draught picks, but BCCI may extend both periods if CVC does not receive clearance.

Most franchise owners believe that mega auctions have outlived their usefulness, and that having auctions every three years jeopardises a team’s makeup and balance.

Parth Jindal, the co-owner of the Delhi Capitals, has previously stated that it is difficult to release players after putting in the effort to develop a squad.
