The Gill’s Show
Shubman Gill got 101 runs off just 58 balls on a surface where others managed 219 runs off 182 legal deliveries for the loss of 17 wickets, an average of 13, and a strike rate of 120. Eight of Gill’s teammates fell short of the double-digit mark. With his first IPL hundred, Gill clearly outperformed the circumstances.
What’s more amazing is that he only hit one six-ball despite taking only 22 balls to reach fifty. It is one of a very small number of T20 fifties that are rapid and devoid of any sixes. Only three IPL hundreds with one or fewer sixes have been recorded, and only 18 in all of T20 cricket. Only three of them have surpassed that time.
Even the fours that Gill hit lacked any danger. After only KL Rahul’s 103 not out against Mumbai Indians last season, this innings had the second-highest percentage of in-control runs for an IPL hundred.
This was an unusual inning at the time, but it is easy to understand why. A pitch that had not been used in this IPL was being used for the match. With the new ball, both teams anticipated mobility and demanded it.
Except that the SRH faced one of the top batsmen across all formats, who could wear down the Test-match lengths they were trying to bowl. Additionally, as Aiden Markram noted, the ball stopped swinging for them faster than anticipated, and Gill was able to locate holes for fours thanks to the attacking fields and lengths. GT became the first team to qualify for the playoff
Gujarat Titans became the first team to qualify for the playoff for this season. With one more game to go against RCB which will not be as important as it is for RCB.
RCB has to win both their remaining games to secure a place in the playoff. Gujarat Titans may be remaining on top despite they lose the last game against RCB as they GT already have 18 points and the closest team is CSK which is having 15 points with one game to go. So if CSK wins their last game then they will have maximum 17 points.
with GT’s players are all in full form and they are doing excellent in all three departments. Shubhman Gill is at the second spot scoring 576 in 13 innings behind DuPlessis who has scored 631 runs in 12 innings.
While in the bowling department, top two positions are occupied by GT bowlers, Mohammad Shami and Rashid Khan both have taken 23 wickets in 13 innings.
The remaining matches are very crucial for all 8 teams. Their chances depend on the other team’s results also with all eyes on net run rate.
