Ishan Kishan: From Ranchi to Stardom – A Cricketing Journey
Newzdaddy Cricket Updates
Ishan Kishan, a rising star in Indian cricket, recently showcased his talent against Pakistan, reminding us of another cricket legend from his hometown of Ranchi, MS Dhoni. Kishan’s journey to success has been a remarkable one, much like Dhoni’s, and it all started in the neighborhood where they both grew up.
Before the match against Pakistan, Ishan Kishan received a text from his friend Satyam Kumar. Satyam asked where he would be batting, and Ishan replied that he might be down the order at No. 5. This unusual batting position prompted Satyam to call Ishan, his former roommate at the Sports Authority of India (SAIL) hostel in Ranchi. He wanted to encourage Ishan, who was playing in an unfamiliar position.
Ishan assured Satyam that he would give his best against Pakistan and saw it as an opportunity to make a difference in the game. This positive attitude has been a defining trait of Ishan’s character.
From Maggi Chef to Cricket Star
Ishan’s journey began when he moved to a SAIL quarter in Doranda, Ranchi, at the age of 12. He shared his flat with older roommates who cooked their meals, leaving Ishan to handle the dishwashing. His dinner usually consisted of “chips and coke” until Satyam taught him how to cook Maggi, which soon became his staple diet.
When Ishan Kishan walked out to bat at No. 5 against Pakistan, it was an unfamiliar position for him. However, during his impressive knock of 82 runs, he demonstrated his adaptability and versatility. His seamless transition can be attributed to his cricket upbringing on matting wickets in places like Patna and Ranchi.
Ishan’s style may not be as elegant as some left-handed batters, but he possesses a destructive capability and a knack for scoring runs, characteristics that reflect the DNA of Ranchi cricket, much like MS Dhoni’s approach.
Doranda: The Breeding Ground
It’s remarkable that the locality of Doranda in Ranchi has produced two Indian wicketkeepers: MS Dhoni and Ishan Kishan. Dhoni’s cricketing journey began at MECON cricket stadium, while Ishan’s started at SAIL’s cricket ground, merely a kilometer away from Dhoni’s home.
Twelve years ago, when MS Dhoni hit the winning six at Wankhede, a 12-year-old Ishan Kishan was packing his bags in Patna, preparing to move to Ranchi in pursuit of a brighter cricketing future. Arun Vidyarthi, a cricket coach in Ranchi, played a pivotal role in bringing Ishan to Ranchi from Patna. At first, people at SAIL were skeptical, but Ishan’s talent soon won them over.
The Crucial Call
Santosh Kumar, a cricket coach in Patna, continuously urged Arun Vidyarthi to come and watch Ishan play. Bihar cricket was struggling, and there was a lack of opportunities. Eventually, Vidyarthi saw Ishan’s potential and brought him to Ranchi, where he was nurtured and given a chance to shine.
Ishan Kishan’s cricketing journey started nearly two decades ago when he accompanied his elder brother Raj Kishan to the Bihar Cricket Academy in Patna. Initially rejected due to his age, Raj’s persistence led to Ishan getting a chance to prove himself. Uttam Mazumdar, the head coach at the academy, now admires Ishan’s progress and determination.
Ishan Kishan may not be the next MS Dhoni, but his recent performance batting at No. 5 against Pakistan has certainly caught the attention of Indian cricket fans. Ranchi has once again produced a promising talent who shows the potential to rescue India from challenging situations, just like their hometown hero MS Dhoni did.
