‘The Origin Story Food Festival’
ITC Narmada, a luxury hospitality destination, is all set to host a special food festival called ‘The Origin Story Food Festival’ from September 22nd to September 24th, 2023, at the Adalaj Pavilion. This festival promises to showcase the unique and delicious culinary traditions from different parts of Gujarat.
The talented chefs at ITC Narmada embarked on a culinary adventure, travelling across Gujarat to explore its rich food culture and history. They didn’t just discover amazing recipes but also the stories behind them. Gujarat, with its varied landscape, offers a fascinating mix of coastal and arid regions, which has shaped its diverse cuisine over generations.
The Origin Story Food Festival will feature a wide range of dishes from Gujarat, including specialities like Kaang no Khichdo (a millet and lentil porridge), Rajwadi Cha (flavoured tea), Lasaniya Batata Bhajiya (spicy bite-sized snacks), Surati Locho, Chaapdi Undhiyu, and Umbadiyu from South Gujarat. You can also savour everyday staples like Khichi Rotli, Bhagat Muthiya nu Shaak, Gajar Lasan nu Athanu, Kalthi ane Palak nu shaak, Vad na Paan nu Khaman, and Bajra no Rotlo. Don’t miss the sweet-savory Kachori, Ghughra, Ghutto, and the unique Nagar wali Adad ni Dal from the Nagar Brahmin community of Junagadh. There are also lesser-known local varieties like Dudhiyo Bajro, Makai Thulu, Naagli Rotli, Tal Sing na Batata, Dal Paniya, and Vaal nu Baafnu, among others.
Keenan McKenzie, General Manager of ITC Narmada, expressed their commitment to offering unique culinary experiences that showcase local culture. The Origin Story Food Festival is an opportunity to introduce lesser-known gourmet delights from Gujarat while supporting local sourcing. The festival emphasizes sustainability and responsible luxury by using locally sourced ingredients like lentils from Dang, chillies from Surat, and more.
To ensure an authentic experience, ITC Narmada has involved locals, including restaurant owners, farmers, and local cooks, in curating the menu. Gujarat’s culinary traditions are deeply rooted in its history and diverse geography, with a mix of coastal and arid regions influencing the cuisine and festive traditions.
‘The Origin Story’ is ITC Narmada’s way of celebrating Gujarat’s culinary culture, offering patrons a carefully curated culinary experience that blends grandeur and simplicity.
