Kolkata’s Durga Puja Pandit Brings Kedarnath Temple to Life
Kolkata, October 10, 2023: This year, something incredible is happening at the Mohammad Ali Park Durga Puja in Kolkata. They’ve created a special theme – it’s like they’ve brought the Kedarnath Temple from far away in Uttarakhand right here to the city. This puja is one of the oldest and most famous in Kolkata, and they’ve been celebrating it for 55 years!
People really want to visit Kedarnath Temple, but not everyone can go there. But guess what? This year, the Kedarnath Temple is coming to Kolkata! The real Kedarnath Temple is way up in the mountains by a river called Mandakini, very high up at 3584 meters above the sea. It’s a really important place for people who follow Lord Shiva.

The General Secretary of the Mohammad Ali Park Durga Puja, Mr. Surendra Kr. Sharma said they got the idea to make a copy of the Kedarnath Temple because many people in Kolkata haven’t been able to visit it. They want everyone to see what it looks like and feel like they’re doing a special prayer to Lord Shiva. The outside of their pandal (that’s like a decoration) looks just like the real Kedarnath Temple. And this time, they’re showing “Shiva is Shakti” through a special statue they’re making. A very famous craftsman named Kush Bera is making the statue. They’re also using special lighting from Chandannagar to make everything look beautiful.
