Synopsis of the Article

In a significant leap towards renewable energy, Dhrab and Bhopavandh, two villages in the Kutch district of Gujarat, have emerged as the region’s first fully solar-powered villages under the Suryaghar Yojana. This ambitious rooftop solar energy initiative, supported by the Adani Foundation and the Gujarat Government, promises to revolutionize energy consumption in Mundra Taluka.

The Suryaghar Yojana, aimed at promoting sustainable energy, was officially launched in these villages with a grand ceremony on January 16, 2024. The event saw the presence of esteemed guests, including Kutch District Collector Amit Arora, Mundra-Mandvi MLA Anirudh Dave, S.D.M. Bhagirath Jhala, Taluka Development Officer Anil Trivedi, and local community representatives. The project’s inauguration marks a historic moment for the residents of Dhrab and Bhopavandh.

Under this initiative, over 750 households in Dhrab and Bhopavandh will be equipped with state-of-the-art 2.3 kW rooftop solar systems. This transition to solar power is not only environmentally friendly but also economically beneficial. Each household contributes ₹8,000 towards the cost, while the Adani Foundation provides ₹42,000 per household. Additionally, the Gujarat Government supports the program with a subsidy of ₹62,520 for each household. This collaborative effort ensures that solar energy is accessible and affordable for all.

The installation of these solar systems is expected to cut down annual energy expenses significantly, with projected savings of more than ₹2 crore collectively. This financial relief is a much-needed boon for the villagers, who will now experience a substantial reduction in their electricity bills.

Speaking at the inauguration, District Collector Amit Arora highlighted the potential of Kutch as a hub for solar energy development. “This initiative is a testament to Kutch’s potential for solar energy development. I urge all residents to embrace this opportunity and contribute to a greener future,” he said.

MLA Anirudh Dave praised the initiative, emphasizing its alignment with Gujarat’s vision for sustainable development. “This ambitious project aligns with Gujarat’s vision of sustainable development. It’s a proud moment for Mundra Taluka to lead this change,” he stated.

The Suryaghar Yojana builds upon the success of previous solar initiatives in other parts of Gujarat, such as Modhera in Mehsana and Masali in Banaskantha. With Dhrab and Bhopavandh now joining this renewable energy revolution, they have set a precedent for other villages across the state.

The enthusiasm from the community is evident, with over 150 households already registered under the scheme. This proactive participation reflects the community’s commitment to embracing renewable energy and setting an example for others to follow.

This project reinforces Gujarat’s commitment to renewable energy, contributing to the state’s reputation as a leader in sustainable development. The success of the Suryaghar Yojana in Dhrab and Bhopavandh showcases the power of community-driven initiatives supported by strong partnerships between foundations and government bodies.

As these villages bask in the benefits of solar energy, they pave the way for a greener, more sustainable future for the entire region.
