The 92-year-old singer was hospitalized at the Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai on January 9 after testing positive for coronavirus with mild symptoms.
“Lata Di is in a good place. Will return home once the doctors have given their approval, “Mangeshkar’s spokesperson, Anusha Srinivasan Iyer, issued a statement.
Dr. Pratit Samdani, who is treating Lata Mangeshkar, previously stated that she will be in ICU for another 10-12 days and that she will be continuously observed and treated for both COVID-19 and pneumonia infections.
Meanwhile, Usha Mangeshkar, Lata Mangeshkar’s younger sister, told ETimes after the veteran singer was hospitalized, “Because it is a COVID case, we are unable to visit Didi. However, there are enough doctors and nurses on hand.” She also mentioned that, due to her advanced age, Lata Mangeshkar might not be released anytime soon.
Mangeshkar’s condition was apparently believed to be deteriorating a few days ago, but the spokesperson quickly dismissed the report as incorrect.
“It’s upsetting to watch erroneous information spread. Please take note that Lata didi is in good health. Continues to be treated in the intensive care unit by capable doctors. Please keep her in your prayers for a speedy return home “Iyer has stated previously.
Mangeshkar, also known as the Queen of Melody and India’s Nightingale, began her career at the age of 13 in 1942 and has since sung over 30,000 songs in various languages.
Several fans and representatives of the film business and other industries flocked to social media to wish Lata Mangeshkar a speedy recovery after learning of her condition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reportedly said to have inquired about Lata Mangeshkar’s health.
In 2001, Lata Mangeshkar received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor. She has also received numerous honors, including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Dada Saheb Phalke Award, and numerous National Film Awards.
We wish her the best of luck in her recovery!
