India has played 9 Tests during this second round of WTC with 4 victories, 2 Draws, and losing 3. Even though India has won the most amount of Tests of all teams during this WTC season, India is in 5th position because of their PCT (percentage of points they have won).

India has also lowered their chances of winning the World Test Championship (WTC). Despite winning the highest number of Tests matches out of all teams during this WTC Cycle, India is at 5th position because PCT (percentage of points they have won) is less as compared to Sri Lanka, Australia, Pakistan, and South Africa.

India’s PCT is now down from 49.07 instead of 55.21. India has lost three points because of the slow over-rate.

Sri Lanka top the chart having won two times in just two games. After winning the two previous Tests against India, South Africa has made improvements to their PCT, which is now 66.66.

Australia which is currently ahead in the Ashes by 3-0, against England is currently in the second spot, with an average of 83.33.

Pakistan is at No.3 with an average PCT figure of 75.00.

ICC had introduced a variety of adjustments in changes to the WTC points system since its first edition. As per changes to the rules of the game, the amount of Test wins and series wins doesn’t determine the standings. However, the percent of points earned (PCT) is what determines the standings. This was done in order to eliminate the differences between the amount of tests teams are scheduled to take part in during each WTC cycle.

The teams are scheduled for six matches, three at home and three away. However, due to the fact that the number of tests in each series is different per team ICC created PCT.

Points Calculation Method:

In the new system if a team wins the test match they will score 12 points. Teams will get 6 points each if the match is a tie. When a game is drawn both the teams receive 4 points each. One point is taken away each time the team is not able to meet the over-rate.

India has played 9 test matches at WTC thus far. The maximum amount of WTC points they could have earned was 108 (9*12) in the event that they won every single one of them. But they only won four and drew two, bringing them to 56 points. Three points were deducted because they fell three overs from the mandatory over-rate. India currently has 53 WTC points. Thus their PCT stands at 49.07 which determines their standing
