Maharashtra Tourism Forges Strong Bonds with Japan
The Maharashtra Tourism team, led by Mr. Girish Mahajan, the Tourism Minister of Maharashtra, went on a successful trip to Japan to build closer connections with the country. They took part in the India Mela event in Kobe and had important meetings and road shows in Shirahama, Okayama, and Osaka from October 7th to 11th, 2023.
At the India Mela in Kobe, the Maharashtra Tourism team showcased their state’s rich heritage and culture. They entertained the crowd with traditional dances and performances, attracting over 3,000 Japanese visitors who showed interest in visiting Maharashtra.
In Shirahama, the team discussed the possibility of exchanging wrestlers between Wakayama and Maharashtra to boost sports tourism. They also visited Adventure World to learn about running similar theme parks in Maharashtra.

A crucial meeting took place with Mr. Kishimoto Shuhei, the Governor of Wakayama Prefecture, to strengthen cultural and economic ties. They also met with the Mayor of Okayama City, who accepted an invitation to the Mumbai Festival in 2024, strengthening the relationship between Okayama and Maharashtra.
The team invited Councillors of Okayama City to the Mumbai Festival, and they expressed interest in private investments in the tourism sector.
Mr. Girish Mahajan, the Tourism Minister, gave interviews to the media in Okayama, discussing tourist attractions and investment opportunities in Maharashtra.
A welcome dinner was hosted by the Okayama Chamber of Commerce. In Okayama, a road show brought together business leaders and tourist companies to discuss collaborations with Maharashtra.
In Osaka, travel agents and tour operators were introduced to Maharashtra’s attractions, including the Buddhist circuit, forts, wildlife, and hill stations.
This journey marks a significant moment in strengthening ties between Maharashtra and Japan. The Maharashtra Tourism team aims to continue building these relationships to boost tourism and investments in Maharashtra.
