All eyes will be on this year’s top models now that Apple has unveiled the more affordable iPhone SE 3. Multiple times, the iPhone 14 series, which is likely to be unveiled later this year, has been leaked.

Apple may forgo the notched display design in favor of a punch-hole display, according to rumors. The standard iPhone 14 model, on the other hand, might not get the design upgrade. The pill-shaped notch will be accessible on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro Max, according to popular display analyst Ross Young.

Furthermore, high-end iPhone models are expected to feature a dual-hole design. The Face ID module will be housed in the first pill-shaped slot, while the front camera for selfies will be housed in the second. The notch design seen on the iPhone 13 series may be retained in the vanilla form.

According to the source, the iPhone 15 models that will be released next year will also have a twin punch-hole arrangement, however, the cut-out will be smaller than this year’s to provide customers more screen space. However, no news on how much Apple plans to reduce it. The cut-out on the iPhone 14 Pro variants, according to the researcher, might be 5.631mm.

Apple may eventually abandon the basic Face ID device in favor of under-display facial authentication, according to the expert. As a result, the Face ID module will not have a front-facing hole. Face ID under the display, on the other hand, is expected to debut before 2023.

“A redesign of the panel is required for Face ID to operate at high accuracy,” Young said. “Perhaps the most important area is replacing the typical Yb/MgAg cathode on top of the OLED stack, which isn’t very transmissive in the IR.”

Apple may use a different layout for the cathodes that drive the OLED pixels instead of a “backside laser drilling,” according to Young. Until now, Apple is said to have settled on a single supplier.

Apple normally prefers dual-source components to cut costs, and it still needs to find a solution to the aforementioned issue, so under-display Face ID isn’t expected to arrive anytime soon.

According to reports, the iPhone 14 series will have storage capacities of up to 2TB. 120Hz LTPO OLED panels are expected to be included in the upcoming iPhone models. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models may have a 6.7-inch display, while the normal model may have a 6.1-inch display. These goods will almost certainly be powered by the A16 Bionic chip.
