Vascular Society of India’s Mission to Promote Comprehensive Vascular Health Care
The Vascular Society of India, established on 6th August 1994 in Chennai, orchestrated the Walkathon on National Vascular Day to champion the cause of Vascular Health Care. With a theme of ‘Walk a Mile to Live with a Smile,’ the campaign aimed to support the government’s Fit India initiative and raise national focus on preventive healthcare and timely interventions.
Aims to Combat Rising Amputations Due to Lifestyle Diseases
In the wake of India’s alarming rise as the diabetic capital of the world, the Walkathon took on particular significance. Unhealthy lifestyles and dietary habits have put an increasing population at risk of preventable amputations. The Vascular Society of India’s efforts are to create widespread awareness, encouraging lifestyle changes to prevent amputations. In cases where treatment becomes necessary, early intervention is emphasized to preserve individuals’ quality of life.
The Vascular Society of India’s Vision and Objectives
The Vascular Society of India has a clear vision – to embrace cutting-edge technology to ensure the complete well-being of patients with vascular ailments. Their objectives include spreading awareness among healthcare providers and the general population about Vascular Surgeons and Vascular Diseases. Key symptoms such as leg swelling, sudden leg pain or discolouration, non-healing wounds, gangrene, and visible dilated veins must prompt immediate consultation with Vascular and Endovascular Surgeons.
Call to Action for Preventive Vascular Care
The Walkathon campaign served as a national call to action, urging individuals to take charge of their vascular health. By adopting healthier lifestyles, seeking timely medical attention, and being proactive in managing risk factors like diabetes, smoking, hypertension, and high cholesterol, the goal of an Amputation-Free India can be realized.
