The Silent Epidemic – Kidney Disease in India
Kidney disease is described as a silent epidemic, with India contributing the highest number of renal failure patients globally. Diabetes, hypertension, and painkiller abuse are leading causes. 1 in 11 Indians may face renal failure, and early symptoms appear only when 70% of kidney function is compromised. More than 2 lakh people add to the End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) list annually, requiring dialysis support.
