On Wednesday 9th November, Netflix announced its new series “Decoupled!” will premiere on the streaming service on December 17 starring R Madhavan and Surveen Chawla, the couple who are discussing whether to take divorce or not.
The series is written by Manu Joseph and directed by Hardik Mehta, which is produced by Bombay Fables and Andolan Films and is set in Gurgaon.
Madhavan plays Arya, an outspoken pulp fiction writer, and Chawla plays Shruti, his corporate suit CEO wife. The two decide to call it quits on their marriage, but it isn’t easy as they work through their problems and juggle the continual question of whether they should be together or not.
Madhavan’s character has “a pretty unadulterated sense of objectivity and clarity,” which is entertaining, especially when contrasted with Surveen’s calm and serene wife Shruti.
“I’m excited to work with such a large company as Netflix, and I’m grateful to Manu Joseph and Hardik Mehta for bringing this character and tale to life. Surveen was a joy to work with from start to finish, and I hope the on-screen chemistry and comedy we share leaves spectators giggling uncontrollably “, stated the actor.
Chawla, who last appeared on Netflix in “Sacred Games” as fan favorite Jojo, stated, “I am eager to return to Netflix and be a part of a completely different genre that will hopefully have people in splits.” Decoupled is a humorous comedy about a modern couple trying to navigate the complexities of marriage while maintaining their sanity.”
Manu Joseph, the show’s creator, stated that the series’ purpose was to keep things honest. “The thing with humor is that if it’s not real, it’s not funny,” he continued, “and what’s difficult about comedy is that every component in a scene has to fire for it to work.”
