Ross Taylor, one of New Zealand’s most reliable performers over the years, has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket following the conclusion of the home series against Australia, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands.
After scoring 18,074 runs in 445 outings for the Kiwis, the 37-year-old called time on his brilliant career. In international cricket, he is still New Zealand’s leading scorer. Taylor is the only player in the world to have appeared in over 100 international matches across all sports formats.
Taylor announced his retirement on his Facebook page: “I’m retiring from international cricket at the end of the home summer, which includes two more tests against Bangladesh and six one-day internationals against Australia and the Netherlands. Thank you for your unwavering support over the past 17 years. It has been a privilege for me to represent my country “Taylor mentioned.
Taylor made his debut in 2006 and has been a key member of the New Zealand team ever since. In 2020, he helped New Zealand win the World Test Championship by defeating India in the final.
Ross Taylor will be remembered as a big-hitting batsman who lit up the IPL in 2009 and 2010. This former RCB batsman was adored by the Bengaluru audience at Chinnaswamy Stadium. A gem of a batsman who could adapt to any format of the game was gone to world cricket.
“It’s been an incredible journey, and I consider myself tremendously fortunate to have had the opportunity to represent my nation for as long as I have,” Ross Taylor said in a statement on NZC.nz.
“It’s been an honor to play with and against some of the game’s legends, and to have made so many memories and friendships along the way.” But all good things must come to an end and the timing feels right for me,” he added.
