One of the busiest commercial ports in India, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) in Mundra, Gujarat, has once again made tremendous progress by successfully berthing one of the largest cargo ships. On July 2, 2023, the 2015-built container ship MV MSC Hamburg was berthed at Adani Ports Mundra.
It’s interesting that the historic occasion occurred in the same month that the joint venture between the Adani International Container Terminal Pvt. Ltd. and the Geneva-based Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) celebrated its ten-year anniversary.
APSEZ has once more demonstrated its mettle in operations and efficiency by adding yet another wonderful treasure to its collection.
A container ship named MV MSC Hamburg is capable of transporting 15,908 TEU and is said to have a current draught of 12 metres. Her overall length (LOA) is 399 metres, and she is 54 metres wide. By successfully berthing one of the largest ships ever, the Mundra Ports accomplished a noteworthy milestone in the maritime transportation industry.
By taking into account the complex characteristics of the ship and the current weather, the APSEZ Mundra Marine Team ensured and facilitated correct projections for the clearance needed to berth the ship safely.
The 13,892 TEU APL Raffles, the largest container ship to call at an Indian port, was berthed in APSEZ in 2021. The yacht, which was registered in Singapore, was 397.88 metres in length and 51 metres in width.
With 339 MMT, the Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone had the most port cargo volume in FY23.
For the prosperity of the country, APSEZ has always worked to maximise port services and infrastructure. The port’s cutting-edge infrastructure is a reflection of India’s expanding maritime sector and commercial growth. The impressive feat of handling 40 vessel movements in just 24 hours by Mundra Port is a testament to its great operational capabilities and superior efficiency.
Following the brief halt in operations imposed by the government due to Cyclone Biparjoy, the port has restored all of its services. As the port is ready to berth ships from all over the world, container movement has once more picked up speed.
