OPPO India and Silver Oak University Join Forces for a Sustainable Future
OPPO India has teamed with Silver Oak University, Ahmedabad, for an ambitious e-waste awareness campaign that is a dramatic step towards sustainability. Focussing on abandoned electronic devices including mobile phones, chargers, and wires, this cooperation seeks to teach the younger generation about responsible e-waste management as part of the greater “Generation Green” campaign. With an aim of encouraging sustainable living all throughout India, the program is supported by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Involving more than 200 schools towards a better future.
Under Silver Oak University‘s direction, the initiative seeks to actively involve about 200 schools. These campuses will be centres of knowledge and inspiration, guiding students towards ethical e-waste disposal. Students are not only the future but also the key to addressing the urgent environmental problems of today, hence this endeavour is absolutely vital.
A Nationwide Movement for E-Waste Awareness
Offering green internships, OPPO India and AICTE worked to encourage sustainable behaviours among young people of India during the first part of the Generation Green program. Out of the over 9,000 applicants from 1,400 colleges, 5,000 were chosen to raise awareness of sustainability from the overwhelmingly strong response. This set a strong basis for the second phase, which today centres on increasing awareness, especially about e-waste.
The core of this program is the endeavour to make e-waste disposal a regular habit among students and their households normal practice. To make this campaign lively and interesting, creative events including stage performances, poetry readings, and poster-making contests have been arranged.
By means of its campaign, OPPO India is pleased to have reached a historic milestone of 4,00,000 pledges for sustainable living. Head of Public Affairs Mr. Rakesh Bhardwaj of OPPO India said, “Today’s kids will shape the future of sustainability. This campaign not only informs but also enables them to be the main driver behind a better future.”
Silver Oak University’s Commitment to Sustainability
Under its dedication to sustainability, Silver Oak University has established a hamlet under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, a rural development initiative. By means of this project, the university will closely interact with rural communities to impart knowledge on proper e-waste disposal, therefore extending the influence of the Generation Green campaign.
A Growing Challenge of E-Waste in India
Between 2010 and 2022, India’s electronic trash generation grew astonishingly 163% according to the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD). This covers a spectrum of thrown-away electronics including computers, displays, and tiny telecom equipment. Although the fast increase in e-waste presents a great difficulty, it also presents an opportunity to apply sensible e-waste management strategies.
The Vision for a Cleaner Future
By the end of 2024, the Generation Green program wants 10 lakh young people reached. Through e-surveys, green pledges, and activity-based seminars, the campaign emphasises awareness-raising. The initiative is clearing the path for a future whereby e-waste management is second nature to young Indians as more and more young people become engaged.
This project also relates to the forthcoming NIRF 2025 Sustainability Rankings, which motivate educational institutions to improve their environmental initiatives.
Conclusion: A Collective Effort for Sustainability
Under the direction of OPPO India and with assistance from AICTE, the Generation Green initiative is a commendable first towards increasing environmental consciousness in India. By means of alliances with colleges like as Silver Oak and by enrolling millions of students, the campaign is moulding a new generation that appreciates sustainability.
